If you want to fundamentally change the texture, tone, and resilience of your skin, the most powerful ingredients don't come from a lab - they come from you.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, often referred to as a "Vampire Facial," pairs the collagen-stimulating power of clinical microneedling with the concentrated growth factors found in your own blood.

At our Victoria & Sidney clinics, we use this advanced medical protocol to treat deep structural skin damage, accelerate recovery, & deliver a level of rejuvenation that standard topical serums simply can't match.

The Science of "Liquid Gold"

Your blood is mostly liquid (plasma), but it also contains red cells, white cells, and platelets. Platelets are the cells responsible for healing; whenever you get a cut, platelets rush to the site and release specific growth factors that signal your body to rebuild tissue and produce collagen.

During a PRP treatment, we draw a small amount of your blood and spin it in a centrifuge. This separates the red blood cells from the plasma, leaving behind a highly concentrated serum of pure platelets - often called "liquid gold."

When we apply this plasma to your skin immediately following microneedling, those growth factors are driven deep into the dermis, bypassing the skin barrier entirely.

What PRP Treats

Because PRP uses your own biological material, it is incredibly safe and highly adaptable to complex skin conditions. We highly recommend PRP for clients looking to correct:

Acne Scars and Pitting: The heavy dose of growth factors helps fill in atrophic (indented) scars by rebuilding the structural matrix beneath the skin.

Severe Sun Damage: PRP helps regulate cellular turnover, breaking up stubborn hyperpigmentation and smoothing the leathery texture caused by chronic UV exposure.

Crepey Skin and Volume Loss: While not a replacement for dermal fillers, PRP thickens the dermis, making the skin under the eyes, on the neck, and on the cheeks look visibly firmer and plumper.

Sluggish Healing: If your skin typically stays red for a week after standard treatments, PRP acts as a biological soothing agent, dramatically cutting down post-treatment inflammation.

The Step-by-Step PRP Process

  • The Blood Draw: A trained professional will draw a small vial of blood from your arm, exactly like a routine lab test.
  • The Centrifuge: While your face is numbing with a medical-grade topical cream, your blood is placed in a centrifuge for about 10 minutes to isolate the platelet-rich plasma.
  • The Microneedling: We perform a precise microneedling treatment to create microscopic, controlled injuries in the skin.
  • The Infusion: Instead of wiping away the plasma, it is massaged into the micro-channels, where it immediately begins the cellular repair process.

Comparing Your Options: Standard vs. PRP vs. Exosomes

standard microneedling

Standard Microneedling:

Relies entirely on the physical needle prick to trigger your body's baseline healing response. Great for mild texture and preventative aging.

prp microneedling vs standard

PRP Microneedling

Uses your own concentrated blood platelets to amplify that healing response. Highly recommended for patients with deep acne scars, severe texture, or those who prefer 100% natural, autologous (from your own body) treatments.

exosome-microneedling

Exosome Microneedling

Uses lab-derived stem cell messengers. Better for extreme inflammation and those who are squeamish about blood draws. (Learn more about our radiofrequency microneedling alternatives).

We highly recommend booking a consultation with one of our experts to determine how many sessions are required and if microneedling is right for you.

PRP FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The term "Vampire Facial" is a media exaggeration. Because the centrifuge separates the red blood cells out of the solution, the PRP serum we apply to your face is actually a clear, pale yellow liquid. You will look flushed and red, similar to a sunburn, but you will not leave looking like a horror movie.
Yes. Certain supplements and medications thin the blood or affect platelet function, which compromises the quality of your plasma. You must stop taking NSAIDs (Advil, Ibuprofen, Aspirin), fish oil, Vitamin E, and systemic enzymes at least 3 to 5 days prior to your appointment.
Typically, we only need to draw one to two small vials of blood (about 10 to 20 mL total). This is a fraction of what is taken during a standard medical blood donation and takes less than a minute to draw.
We do not perform microneedling (with or without PRP) over active, inflamed, or cystic acne, as the needles can spread the bacteria and worsen the breakout. We must clear active acne first before using PRP to heal the remaining scars.
We strictly forbid heavy exercise for 48 to 72 hours post-treatment. Sweating introduces bacteria into the open micro-channels, which can cause severe breakouts or infection. Additionally, increased blood pressure from cardio can exacerbate swelling and inflammation.
While PRP can technically be injected like a filler to stimulate localized collagen (often done under the eyes), our primary protocol pairs it with microneedling. Microneedling ensures the plasma is distributed evenly across the entire face for global skin resurfacing. If you are looking for specific volume replacement, we recommend exploring our filler options.
The spinning process takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes. It is done in the exact same room while you are resting with your numbing cream on, ensuring your plasma is fresh and immediately ready for application.
While you will see an immediate "glow" once the initial redness subsides in 2-3 days, the real structural changes take time. Collagen synthesis takes about 4 to 6 weeks to mature. You will see the most significant improvements in scars and texture about two months after your final session.
